Deposit, Scale, and Powder Collection Kit
The Deposit, Scale and Powder Collection Kit is applicable to sampling of dry and wet deposits, scale, and environmental and other samples of loose and lightly adherent materials without loss or contamination.
Applications
 Steam and Power Generation
 Steam and gas turbine deposits
 Boiler fireside deposits
 Superheater and reheater deposits
Accumulated scale and sludge in steam, mud drums, condensers, etc.
Dry spills, dust and soil samples
 Fiber and similar samples
Chemical, food and pharmaceutical process samples
 Environmental control
 Medical samples
 Transportation
 Plant science and agriculture
 Criminology
Background
The Collection Kit was designed to collect steam turbine deposits which reflect the accumulation of impurities on the surfaces of blades, rotors, pipes and other components. Deposit analysis is used in the evaluation of corrosion, failures, scale growth, and deposit loading (thickness), as well as in studies of transport of chemicals through steam systems. In combination with chemical data and water and steam chemistry, deposits can provide information about the environment surrounding turbine components during operation and layup, and about the sources of the impurities. The Collection Kit can also be used in a similar manner for a wide variety of fields including environmental control, agriculture, criminology, medicine, and chemical, food and pharmaceutical processes.
Description
The Kit contains everything needed for sample collection, including a portable vacuum with various nozzles, scrapers and brushes, bag filters, sample bags, illuminated magnifier, in-situ pH kit and Instruction Manual (see Figure 1). Samples are collected directly into small disposable "bag" filters so sample transfer and contamination is avoided.
Sample Analysis
Before the samples are collected, a visual inspection and documentation should be made, including photographs and in-situ pH measurements
Upon collection of samples, it is recommended that they be analyzed using optical and SEM microscopy, EDAX, X-ray diffraction, and chemical analytical methods. Jonas, Inc. can analyze most samples upon request.
