Managing Reliability - Steam Cycle Corrosion

Operation, Maintenance, and Inspection Procedures and Manuals:  Include criteria for repair and replacement, and approval of corrective actions

Commissioning of Water Chemistry:  Boiler carry-over, blowdown, deaeration, makeup, condensate polishing, sampling and instrumentation, etc.

Water Chemistry and Corrosion Control Audit:  After ~ 3 months of operation and every 5 years

Safety Issues:  Identify components and preventive measures (headers and piping, deaerators, erosion-corrosion, cavitation, ...).

Operation, Maintenance, and Water Chemistry Recordkeeping for the Life of the Unit:  Include root causes and cost of problems

Periodic Inspections:  Document, video, pictures, depth of cracks and pits, defect growth rate, and derived inspection interval

Chemical and Other Cleaning: Criteria, methods, discharges/disposal, qualification of vendors

Life Extension - after 15 - 20 years of service:  Creep, low cycle fatigue, corrosion, etc.
